A woman carrying potable water in a far flung hamlet of Jammu and Kashmir state of India. Provision of clean drinking water is a major challenge in such far flung areas and most of such hamlets are dependent on natural springs from where the water is fetched and most of the time, by women. The relentless encroachment of forested land for development and agriculture is slowly reducing the green cover and causing imbalance in the Himalayan ecosystem.
